Batsman Mahela Jayawardene was one of the 267 passengers on board the SriLankan Airlines flight that endured an emergency landing at Stansted Airport in London, due to a security threat, on Saturday.

The Daily Mirror reported that Jayawardene was travelling to England for the legendary Test Captains dinner, which will be held at Lord's on Tuesday.

"Thanks all for concern. What an experience! Due to security threat got diverted to Stansted. Credit to local police," tweeted Jayawardene.

"36 hours later, still no bags. SriLankan Airlines' UK staff handling of situation was sadly appalling."

The veteran Jayawardene will be joined by fellow former Sri Lanka captains Arjuna Ranatunga, Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara at the event.
