Johnson, Hazlewood to miss Bangladesh tour

Bowlers Mitchell Johnson and Josh Hazlewood are likely to be rested for Australia's tour to Bangladesh in October in order for them to be ready and refreshed for the home season.

Australia will play the Tigers in two Test matches in what will be Steve Smith's first tour as the new Aussie Test captain and he looks set to be without his leading fast bowler.

The Aussies will host New Zealand and the West Indies in their home summer while they will also play Tests away to the Black Caps in the new year.

Johnson played in all five of the recent Ashes Tests against England, which Australia lost, while Hazlewood started in the first four games before he sat out the fifth Test due to some 'niggles'.

Cricket Australia's general manager of team performance, Pat Howard said: "The selectors won't meet to discuss the tour of Bangladesh for a couple of weeks.

"There's some important consideration that needs to be given to managing our fast bowlers, not just in Bangladesh, but the full 10-Test season, and that will be part of the discussion.

"Mitchell Johnson and Josh Hazlewood are two players that have had heavy workloads and need to be managed carefully if we are to give them the best chance of success throughout that entire period.

"Neither player has had a pre-season to prepare for the Australian summer and we think that's particularly important."
