The uncapped Chris Jordan, Jamie Overton, Michael Carberry, Gary Ballance and Boyd Rankin have been named in England's squad for next month's ODIs against Ireland and Australia.

Skipper Alastair Cook, fast bowler James Anderson, batsman Ian Bell and spinner Graeme Swann, who featured in this month's three-nil Ashes series triumph, have been rested. The left-handed Eoin Morgan will captain the side in Cook's absence.

19-year-old seamer Overton and Barbados-born fast bowler Jordan impressed for the England Lions against Bangladesh A recently. Fast bowler Rankin and batsman Carberry, meanwhile, will be afforded the opportunity to build on momentum gained during this weekend's T20I series against the same opposition.

The Zimbabwean-born Ballance enjoyed an outstanding stretch of form in August, scoring four centuries and two half-tons for the Lions and Yorkshire. He was named in the T20I squad for two fixtures against New Zealand earlier this year, but did not debut.

"Following a very intense period of cricket this summer we have decided to rest a number of senior players which will allow them to recover from a heavy workload over the last three months and to prepare for the tour of Australia which begins in eight weeks," said national selector Geoff Miller.

"This creates an excellent opportunity for players who have impressed in county cricket and for England Lions recently to test themselves at international level as we continue to build a squad ahead of the World Cup, which is less than 18 months away.

"There are a number of very experienced one-day players in the squad alongside players who are new to international cricket and we are expecting a very tough challenge both from a strong Ireland side and then from Australia in what will no doubt be a very competitive series."

Batsmen Kevin Pietersen, Joe Root and Jonathan Trott will not play against Ireland, but will join the squad for the five-match affair against the Australians, with spinner Danny Briggs and the right-handed James Taylor to make way. All-rounder Ben Stokes will be available for all six matches.

The Irish and English will meet for a one-off ODI in Dublin on 3 September. England's first fixture against the Aussies will be played in Leeds three days later. Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Southampton will host games two, three, four and five respectively.
