Karn to continue 'highest standards'

Talented leg-spinner Karn Sharma delighted in Tuesday's big announcement, after being named in India's squad for the upcoming limited-overs series against England.

Sharma, seamer Dhawal Kulkarni and wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson are the three uncapped players in a relatively new-look 17-man touring party, which will be without the services of the injured Amit Mishra.

Seamers Umesh Yadav and Mohit Sharma have been retained, while batsman Cheteshwar Pujara is absent from a formidable batting order including the attacking Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

"Since I had fared quite well in whatever opportunities I got, I was hoping that my efforts would be recognised. It's an inexplicable feeling now that my efforts have been rewarded with a place in the India squad," Karn told ESPNcricinfo.

The 26-year-old has effectively graduated to the international fold on the back of a consistent stretch of form for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2014 Indian Premier League and India A's recent tri-series against South Africa A and Australia A in Darwin.

"It was an overwhelming experience, the first time I played for India A. This was the highest standard I was playing at and I didn't want to let myself and the team down," he added.

"I knew since I was touring with the India A squad for the first time, I had to be patient till I got my chance and make the most of it once I got it. I am delighted that I could do it and contribute to the team's cause."

The English and Indians will meet for five ODIs – in Bristol, Cardiff, Nottingham, Birmingham and Leeds – and a one-off Twenty20 International at Edgbaston from 25 August to 7 September.
