Former South Africa head coach Gary Kirsten will join up with the Proteas ahead of the second Test in Colombo this week, and will be with them until the end of day two.

The Proteas lead the series after winning the first Test in Galle, despite some ball tampering controversy, and now Kirsten will contribute some batting and strategic advice to see them to a series win.

CSA said in a statement: "The former Proteas coach has previously been used as a strategic and batting consultant on an ad hoc basis, since relinquishing his head coach position with the national team last year.

"The arrangement was confirmed prior to the start of the two-test series, and will continue throughout the season. Kirsten will be with the team until the second day of the Test match."

Kirsten quite the role in 2013 after seeing them to the top of the Test rankings, citing time away from his family as the main reason for his resignation. The role was taken over by Russell Domingo, who was the limited-overs coach at the time.
