India's Virat Kohli has moved to the top of the International Cricket Council's player rankings for ODI batsman after Saturday's three-two series win over Australia.

Kohli scored 344 runs at the impressive average of 114.66 during the seven-match affair, with 100 not out in Jaipur and 115 not out in Nagpur highlighting his talent.

The fine stretch of form consequently brought 38 ratings points – and the coveted number one ranking shortly before his 25th birthday. He is the third Indian to hold the title, after the veteran Sachin Tendulkar and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Australian skipper George Bailey, meanwhile, has moved from ninth to third position – after 478 runs, which included a century and three half-tons, against the Indians.

In the ICC player rankings for ODI bowlers, Pakistan's Saeed Ajmal has regained the number one berth, while Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja has slipped two places to third.

Ajmal had trailed Jadeja by 10 ratings points and, while the latter took eight wickets against the Aussies, the former claimed six wickets in the first two ODIs against South Africa.

The player rankings for ODI all-rounders has seen Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez remain at the helm, while Australian Shane Watson and Jadeja have lost ground.

India continue to lead the ICC ODI team rankings, with the Australians in second position. New Zealand, after a three-nil series loss to Bangladesh, have slipped to eighth spot – below the West Indies.
