Kohli backed to 'come back stronger'

Former captain VVS Laxman is confident batsman Virat Kohli will secure a solid stretch of form, come India's series against the West Indies later this year.

Former captain VVS Laxman is confident batsman Virat Kohli will secure a solid stretch of form, come India's series against the West Indies later this year.

Kohli failed to score a half-century during the recent three-one Test series defeat to England – and endured a lean patch across the five ODIs against the same opposition.

A redemptive 66 in the one-off Twenty20 International at Edgbaston in Birmingham silenced some critics – and drew late praise from the veteran Laxman.

"It's good that he is having a break before the series against West Indies and isn't part of the Champions League because this time away will allow him to reflect on what has happened and come back stronger," Laxman told ESPNcricinfo.

"He is a very hard working young cricketer and I am sure that he will bounce back. It's a matter of time before he starts scoring runs like the way he has over the last few years."

The Indians and Windies will meet for five ODIs, a one-off T20I and three Tests – in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Ahmedabad – between 8 October and 19 November.
