Kohli: Important that India remain calm

India batsman Virat Kohli has urged his team and their supporters to remain as they begin their quest to win their first World T20 on home soil against New Zealand in Nagpur on Tuesday.

Runners-up in the previous edition, India will start the tournament as favourites and Kohli admits preparing for the event is different to a bilateral series.

Even though they are the favourites, Kohli does not want him or the team to get ahead themselves insisting they need to focus on each game as it comes.

Kohli said on Monday: "The whole feel and vibe of such a big tournament is different from a bilateral. Our biggest strength will be to not look at it as a new tournament but to keep our momentum going.

"At home people come to you and say 'we must win'; we expect and understand that playing in India, (but) it's important to not get carried away – staying calm is important.

"We obviously are our own favourites but it's important to focus game by game. The teams from both the groups are strong, and we would like to focus on our skills rather than brooding too much on what the opposition does.

"We have been successful in the recent past, and will look to continue the same process here too."
