Krejza excited but warns Fawad will be targeted

Former Australia spinner Jason Krejza is excited that Fawad Ahmed has been chosen in the  Australia squad for the Test series against the West Indies, but has warned that he will be targeted by opposition batsman.

Pakistan-born Fawad was chosen as the second spinner, along with Nathan Lyon, for the tour of the Caribbean where Australia will play two Tests before jetting off to England for the Ashes.

Australia have been searching for a leg spinner since Shane Warne retired from international cricket in 2007, and it is hoped that Fawad, who plays for Victoria, can live up to expectations.

Krejza, who played two Test matches for Australia, said: "It's been a while since we've had a leg spinner and it's exciting because they're usually wicket-takers. Watching him bowl suggests Fawad has all the traits and tricks of a world-class bowler.

"I don't think any other 'leggie' comes close to having his control. He's very good but his biggest challenge will be how he goes at [Test] level.

"Teams are going to go at him especially on a wicket with not much turn."
