KXIP’s Maxwell exits IPL with side strain

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has cut his disappointing IPL season short, leaving the tournament after complaining of a side strain, and going home to rest ahead of the West Indies tri-series.

Maxwell, and the Kings XI Punjab, have had a dire IPL, and the player recorded a number of ducks and low scores this season, and only two half tons. The team cannot make it to the play-offs.

Maxwell had apparently said after the weekend's match that he was feeling increasingly sore, so he's been sent home to recover ahead of the tri-series in the Caribbean this month, which also features South Africa.

Australia team physio David Beakley said: "Glenn reported increasing soreness in his left abdomen area following last night's match and as such a decision was made for him to return home for further assessment and treatment ahead of the West Indies tour.

"From the information we have so far, the injury doesn't appear to be something that will prevent Glenn from participating in this tour, but we are keen to give him the necessary time to recover before departing to the West Indies at the end of this month."

Maxwell's one of a few Aussies who didn't complete their stints this year, with Steven Smith, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh and John Hastings all leaving with various injuries.
