Lancashire CC are not concerned about talk linking their coach Peter Moores to the vacant England head coaching role, saying there is always chatter around Moores as he is one of the best in the business.

Moores, who had coached England in 2008/9, is rumoured to be in line for the job, which until recently had seemed all set to go to Ashley Giles. But the Limited-Overs coach's prospects were damaged by England's recent dire performances.

Mick Newell and Trevor Bayliss are the other two men short-listed for the job, but Lancs director Mike Watkinson is not worried about Moores being poached. He said: "It's not the first time and it won't be the last.

"It's a way of the world that if you have gone out there and recruited someone who you think is one of the best coaches available – which we have – then it is only natural that he will be linked to other positions when they come up."

Meanwhile, former Australia fast bowler Geoff Lawson feels Bayliss, the New South Wales coach, would be a good fit for England, saying: "England no doubt feel a new coach will need to manage a few people and that is his real strength.

"He's relaxed, calming and able to get the best out of players. He never gets overly excited or overly depressed by the game or by performances and he's got great knowledge."
