Arguably the greatest batsmen to grace international cricket, former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar and West Indian stalwart Brian Lara have been named in the Marylebone Cricket Club XI for 5 July's showpiece fixture against the Rest of the World XI at Lord's in London.

Tendulkar has been appointed skipper of the MCC ahead of Lara, while the XI will included Pakistan pair Saeed Ajmal and Umar Gul and Australian trio Shaun Tait, Brett Lee and Aaron Finch.

Lara's former team-mate Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Tendulkar's erstwhile skipper Rahul Dravid will also feature. English wicketkeeper Chris Read and New Zealand all-rounder Daniel Vettori have been selected, too.

"Lord's always holds a very special place in any cricketer's heart, and I am very much looking forward to helping celebrate its Bicentenary with MCC this summer," said Lara. "It was an honour to be asked to be involved and it will be fantastic to play at such an iconic place on such a special occasion."

Ex-Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne will lead the Rest of World unit, alongside Pakistan's Shahid Afridi, Bangladeshi Tamim Iqbal, Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan, Englishmen Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood, Australian duo Adam Gilchrist and Peter Siddle and Indians Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh.

Fast bowler Tino Best's participation is subject to the West Indies' series against New Zealand. Best will be replaced if named in the squad for the three-Test series. Former South African all-rounder Shaun Pollock will manage the Rest of the World XI – and ex-England skipper Mike Gatting the MCC team.

"It's extremely exciting for us to confirm the full line-ups for this match and I cannot wait to see them put on a show at the home of cricket. This is a very special year for Lord's and I'm delighted to see the calibre of players who are so keen to come and celebrate the Lord's bicentenary with MCC," concluded MCC head of cricket John Stephenson.
