Lehmann: Aussies might rest paceman Starc

Australia coach Darren Lehmann has said that fast bowler Mitchell Starc might be rested for the fourth ODI against England, taking place at Headingley on Friday.

Starc has played in all the matches on a gruelling tour to the UK. The left-arm paceman has completed all five Ashes Tests, the one-off T20 and four ODIs on tour, including a match against Ireland.

With the Aussies suffering multiple injuries in the ongoing five-match ODI series against England, Lehmann has revealed that they planned on resting Starc but things changed when injuries struck the squad.

Lehmann said: "I know there's been a lot of talk about someone like Mitchell Starc and his workload over the past 12 months has been exceptional. We'll see whether he plays or not on Friday.

"We wanted to try and get him home if we could – maybe play a couple of games and then bring in a younger bowler again.

"It hasn't played out that way so we'll just sum it up from here. We're all tired, but that's international cricket, that's what you do when you're representing your country.

"You want to try and play the best brand of cricket you can to try and win games but scheduling is always tough."

Australia are currently leading the series two-one with two matches to play.
