Lee: We have the best bowling attack in the world

Proteas women’s opener Lizelle Lee believes her team has the best bowling attack in the world after the visitors thumped England by seven wickets in the first ODI in Worcester on Saturday.

The tourists’ pace trio of Shabnim Ismail, Marizanne Kapp and Ayabonga Khaka reduced the world champions to 39/4 and then 98/7 before the home side eventually posted 189/9 in their 50 overs.

The Proteas knocked off the target with more than four overs to spare with Lee getting the player-of-the-match award for a sparkling 92 not out. The batter however gave all the praise to the bowlers.

Lee told reporters: “I believe we have the best bowling attack in the world. I don’t believe there is a team that comes near our bowling attack.

“The pitch didn’t have too many demons in it, but they just pushed through and took wickets which we didn’t expect.

“It is actually great, even if we didn’t get a high total to know that you have a bowling attack like that coming in. I think all three are up there, they are very good.”

The second-match of the three-match ODI series takes place in Brighton on Tuesday.
