Malinga appointed Sri Lanka T20 skipper

Sri Lanka have made some changes to their leadership in the shorter formats, handing the permanent T20 captaincy to Lasith Malinga after he did a sterling job with the side in the latter stages of the World Twenty20.
Sri Lanka have made some changes to their leadership in the shorter formats, handing the permanent T20 captaincy to Lasith Malinga after he did a sterling job with the side in the latter stages of the World Twenty20.
Malinga took over from Dinesh Chandimal, who had been suspended and then pulled out of the side due to poor form, and then led the side to the title. As such, Chandimal has been replaced on a permanent basis.
Test skipper Angelo Mathews held on to his job as ODI skipper after leading the side to the Asia Cup title, with Lahiru Thirimanne getting the role of vice-captain in both short formats.
A statement from SLC read: "At a Selection Committee meeting held , the National Selectors selected the following players as the Captain and the Vice Captain of the National ODI and T20 teams.
"Angelo Mathews has been appointed as the Captain of the National ODI Team while Lahiru Thirimanne has been appointed as the Vice Captain of same until March 2015.
"Lasith Malinga has been appointed as the Captain of the National T20 Team while Lahiru Thirimanne has been appointed as the Vice Captain of same until March 2015."
Meanwhile, SLC also named their team to face England in a one-off T20 at the end of May, not featuring the retired duo of Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara.
