Masakadza looking for fresh start in T20s

Zimbabwe batsman Hamilton Masakadza says his team have to put the recent ODI series defeat against India behind them and look for a fresh start when the first of two T20s gets underway in Harare on Friday.

India whitewashed the hosts three-nil in the 50-over format with a second-string team as most their senior players, including MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, have been given a rest by the selectors.

All the matches were not as one-sided as they series scoreline might suggest and Masakadza feels they can use these matches to their benefit as they gear up for World T20 in India next year.

"Obviously things didn't go according to plan in the one-dayers. We expected something a little bit better than what we got. But we're looking forward to the new format now, a little bit of a fresh start and a new series.

"We don't get as many games as they do, but you just have to work with what's put before you, and now looking forward to the T20 World Cup that's early next year we've got a little bit more T20 cricket coming up and we've just played some on the last tour that we had, so I think looking into the future we're going to have a few more games.

"I think the main thing is to keep being competitive and get ourselves into those winning positions."

The second T20 International will take place on Sunday also in Harare.
