Mashrafe baffled by Morgan’s decision

Bangladesh veteran fast bowler Mashrafe Mortaza says he cannot understand why England captain Eoin Morgan has decided not to go on tour, and that the players will be perfectly safe.

Morgan has decided not to lead the ODI side to Bangladesh, citing safety concerns, despite various experts assuring the players that the trip is safe. Mortaza opined that Morgan must have been influenced by his family.

Mashrafe told Daily Prothom Alo: “It’s his (Morgan’s) own decision. I don’t know why he is hesitating to come. Maybe his family is forbidding him.

“Players can take their own decisions in these kind of situations. And those who will come, they will definitely come by understanding the conditions.”

He added: “The biggest thing is, ECB has agreed to send their team to Bangladesh and England will play here.

“The board and government have agreed to give all types of security facilities. ECB feels that it’s safe to play here.

“Now they will understand better whom should they send and whom they shouldn’t send.”

The first of three ODIs starts on 7 October, followed by two Tests. England Test skipper Alastair Cook is prepared to tour, as it stands.
