Mathews leaves SA and returns to Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews has been given permission to return to the sub-continent after twisting his ankle in the second Twenty20 international against South Africa.

Mathews will miss out on the third and final T20I in Cape Town and also five One-Day Internationals, with the tour officially ending on February 10.

It was also confirmed that Dinish Chandimal will take over the captaincy for the next T20,

“The next T20 match will be captained by Dinesh Chandimal,” the Sri Lankan board said in a statement.

Opening bowler Nuwan Pradeep and batsman Danushka Gunathilaka are also expected to return to Sri Lanka as they need rest following their respective injuries.
