Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews lamented a "disappointing all-round performance" in the wake of Sunday's 113-run defeat at the hands of Pakistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.

The bowling attack struggled in rather flat conditions, with seamers Nuwan Kulasekara, Thisara Perera and Angelo Mathews proving expensive, as centurion Mohammad Hafeez and half-centurion Ahmed Shehzad pushed Pakistan to a fat total of 326 for five.

The Sri Lankan reply was limp and ultimately very insufficient. Former captain Tillakaratne Dilshan's commanding 59 was the highest in a final total of 213 all out in just 44.4 overs. As in the previous fixture, numerous specialist batsmen enjoyed solid starts but couldn't convert to innings of telling substance.

"I felt that the fielding and batting was poor, we need to comeback in the next two matches. We have done pretty well chasing, it was a great wicket to bat on but we lost too many wickets." said Mathews.

"If you are chasing 320-odd, you need to get a good start and give the middle-order players a chance, that didn't happen. We need to win next game to stay alive in the series, so we'll come out firing."

Shehzad, meanwhile has been fined 50 percent of his match fee after breaching the International Cricket Council's code of conduct last week.

He pleaded guilty to "inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players in the course of play during an international match" after pushing opposition player Tillakaratne Dilshan.

The charge was laid by match officials Johan Cloete, Shozab Raza Richard Illingworth and Ahsan Raza. Ahmed's punishment was determined by match referee David Boon.

The fourth ODI will get underway at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. The same venue will host the final fixture two days later. A three-Test series will follow.
