Maxwell sanctioned for poor discipline

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell's T20 season with Yorkshire ended in unceremonious circumstances as he was dropped for Friday's T20 Blast match against Birmingham, with the club citing 'disciplinary reasons'.

Maxwell had played 12 T20 games for the Vikings this season, and had his deal extended recently when Aaron Finch was ruled out due to injury. Yorkshire did not specify what the reasons were for his sanctions.

Coach Jason Gillespie said of the decision: "It was just unprofessional behaviour and I don't wish to add anything further.

"It has been dealt with and we have moved on and the slate is clean. As soon as the decision was made, we cracked on."

The Vikings ended up beating the Bears by eight wickets in Maxwell's absence, but they did not reach the quarter-finals, so now he will be available to play One-Day Cup and Championship games.

Maxwell is set to be part of Australia's limited-overs matches once the Ashes Tests are finished. He was given permission to miss the Australia A tour to India that's on the go now, in order to prepare for said games in England.
