Former all-rounder Craig McMillan has been named New Zealand's batting coach for the tour of the West Indies later this year.
McMillan played 55 Tests, 197 ODIs and eight Twenty20 Internationals between May 1997 and September 2007 – and has since worked with the national team on batting technique.
"We had a number of strong applicants from New Zealand and abroad, but overall we felt that Craig was the best fit for the role," said NZC head of cricket Lindsay Crocker.
"Apart from being a former player himself, Craig's worked with Canterbury Cricket and also spent some time in the Black Caps camp.
"His commentary work has also given him extensive knowledge of both the Black Caps and West Indies squads and those qualities placed him ahead of the other candidates."
The Windies and Kiwis will meet for three Tests – in Jamaica, Trinidad and Guyana – and two T20Is – Dominica – between 8 June and 6 July. A full-time batting coach will be appointed after this tour.
