Batsman David Miller's burgeoning role as a finisher will be on display come Wednesday, when South Africa meet Sri Lanka for the second ODI in Pallekele.

While centurion Hashim Amla and half-centurion AB de Villiers formed the backbone of a successful innings in the series opener in Colombo last week, Miller's quickfire 36 not out capped a fat final total of 304 for five.

"I'm really enjoying it. It's an opportunity for me to showcase my skills. I'm learning as much as I can and trying to improve where I can," enthused the hard-hitting left-hander.

The Proteas will be wary of a backlash at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, where the Sri Lankans will target a prompt turnaround – in a bid to replicate last year's series win.

"We spoke about that in the team meeting. With it being a three-match series they will definitely come back stronger, that's the way cricket goes. We know that bad days happen but it's how you come back that you build your character on," added Miller.

"We know that they are going to come hard at us but we are ready for that. We are starting over as a team and will be keeping it simple and to the basics."
