Morgan shuts down KP recall speculation

England T20 captain Eoin Morgan has declared the 'door shut' on the prospect of batsman Kevin Pietersen returning to the side for the World Twenty20, despite Pietersen's superior stats in the format.

Pietersen has been in top form with the bat in recent weeks, particularly at the Big Bash League in Australia, and there were calls to have him included for the ICC event in India, but Morgan has nipped that in the bud.

In an interview with former skipper Nasser Hussain in the Daily Mail, Morgan was asked whether Pietersen stood a chance for a recall, given his efforts in recent times. But Morgan, who is friends with Pietersen, was emphatic in his denial.

Hussain: "I have to ask you the question. When you sit there and see KP smashing it around the world, do you think 'Crikey, we should pick him'? Or do you think, 'That door is shut'?"

Morgan: "That door is completely shut. Kevin will not be picked."

Hussain: "That's from you?"

Morgan: "That's from me."

Pietersen was unimpressed with this, taking to Twitter to ask how the captain, who is not a selector, could make such a pronouncement.

KP tweeted: "Interesting he's saying it's HIS call! Very interesting! Hmmmmm…!"

Pietersen was the third-highest run getter in the BBL this year, and scored half tons in the semi-final and final. He was player of the tournament when England won the WT20 in 2010.
