Veteran Titans all-rounder Albie Morkel is set to miss half the domestic season in South Africa after he has ankle surgery on Friday, joining brother Morne on the treatment table.

Morne Morkel was forced to withdraw from the Champions League T20 with Kolkata due to a shoulder injury, but Albie is worse off, and looking to be out until at least December, a heavy blow for the Titans.

Having torn two ligaments in his ankle earlier this month, Morkel explained on Supersport: "I will be out of action for at least ten weeks, but it could be more.

"It is disappointing, as I would miss the domestic T20-campaign. It would have been great to help the Titans to qualify for the Champions League Twenty20."

Titans skipper, South Africa batsman Henry Davids, was gutted, saying: "Naturally, his loss for the first half of the season is a setback as he is a big player for the Titans.

"He was looking forward to be part of our four-day domestic campaign as well."
