Mortaza announces T20I retirement

Fast bowler Mashrafe Mortaza will retire from T20 International cricket after Bangladesh’s ongoing series against Sri Lanka.

Mortaza played 52 T20Is prior to Tuesday’s fixture against the Sri Lankans in Colombo – and was captain for 26 of those.

“This is going to be my last T20 series for Bangladesh,” said Mortaza. “I would like to thank BCB, my family and friends, team-mates and coaching staff. I would also like to thank my fans who really supported me in the last 15-16 years.”

The right-arm seamer’s best T20I bowling figures of four for 19 came against Ireland in Belfast in 2012.

He has also played 172 ODIs – and the last of his 36 Tests came in 2009.
