Mr Cricket thrilled to have ‘genius’ Russell

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has a lot to live up to in the Big Bash League this year, as Sydney Thunder skipper Mike Hussey said the player was growing more consistent with each match.

Russell is a premier T20 player, in demand in leagues around the world, and Hussey said he was delighted to have such a talented, and big hitting, all-rounder in the Thunder squad.

Hussey said: "It must be a lot of fun being Andre Russell. (He's) a massive unit who practices hitting sixes all day, every day.

"He's an exciting player and I think he's more experienced now. I remember when I first played against him he was quite inexperienced and inconsistent with his performances.

"But I think he's really started to work the game out and we're seeing a lot more consistent performances from him and such dynamic performances.

"He's just a great all-round player to have. He contributes with the ball, he's obviously very dangerous with the bat and he's a genius in the field as well. So it's a fantastic get for us to have him."

Russell played for the Melbourne Renegades last Big Bash season, and recently played for the Knights in South Africa's Ram Slam T20 and for the Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League.
