Mumbai Indians upset Sunrisers
The Mumbai Indians instigated a batting collapse from the Sunrisers Hyderabad before chasing down a target of 159 with four wickets in hand in the IPL.
The Sunrisers looked set for a much bigger total but slipped from 75 without loss after ten overs to 158/8 in 20 overs.
Harbhajan Singh began the rot when David Warner (49) holed out fresh off the back of whacking the spinner for six.
The turbanator would strike again a few overs later to remove Deepak Hooda (9) before Mitchell McClenagan removed Shikhar Dhawan (48) and the slide was well and truly on.
Ben Cutting smashed 20 off ten balls but few others stood up and the Sunrisers struggled to 158.
Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the Mumbai Indians bowlers with figures of 3 for 24.
The early loss of Jos Buttler (14) and Rohit Sharma (4) was offset by a solid partnership between Parthiv Patel (39) and Nitesh Rana who took the Mumbai franchise to 79.
That was when Parthic holed out to Hooda but Rana would oush on establish handy partnerships with Kieron Pollard (11) and Krunal Pandya (37).
In the end Hardik Pandya (2*) and Harbhajan (3*) would get the Indians home and keep the IPL really interesting by handing the Sunrisers their first defeat.
The Mumbai Indians skipper Sharma gave credit to the bowlers: “It was a perfect platform for us to showcase our talents with the ball because we all know how the Sunrisers, especially the top four, bat, so firstly credit to the bowlers for coming out and restricting them.
“When they execute their plans, it becomes easy for a captain to manoeuvre his field. We know how Warner plays upfront as well as Shikhar. Lot of credit goes to the bowlers and the fielders.
“Parthiv behind the wicket makes it easier for me to adjust my field. Very good performance from the bowlers and well-finished by the batsmen as well. Still early days, just three games, but we would like to take a lot from the three games.
“I could not have asked for anything more from each of the 10 players. But now the big challenge, we go to Bangalore.
“You must have seen both of them on the ground. They (Krunal and Hardik Pandya) are expressive, that’s just how they play. And we have given them the liberty to express themselves. It brings out the best from them and we also enjoy seeing that from the dressing room.”
