Munro and Marsh to miss BBL final

News

The Sydney Sixers will be without overseas professional Colin Munro for the Big Bash League final with the Black Caps left hander leaving the squad to prepare for the Chappell-Hadlee ODI series against Australia.

Their opponents in the final the Perth Scorchers have also been affected by the series with Shaun Marsh set to miss the showdown having earned an ODI squad recall with his impressive form in the Bash.

Munro was drafted into the Sixers squad after Sam Billings left to link up with the England ODI squad in India.

The aggressive left-hander hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory in his short stint in the BBL managing scores of 1, 3 and 23 in his three innings.

He was chosen to face the super over with Moises Henriques in the semi-final but was little more than a spectator playing and missing and running a bye while the Aussie allrounder smashed the ball to all parts.

In contrast the elder Marsh has been central to the Scorchers strong finish to the league phase of the competition proving that he can be almost as handy in the shorter formats as his younger brother Mitchell.

He has hit consecutive fifties in the last two Scorchers games after an indifferent start to the campaign that saw him struggle to break into double figures.

Marsh told AAP: “I’m going away to represent my country, and I get another opportunity in one-day cricket, which I’m really looking forward to.

“The boys will be excited about Saturday, and I’m sure they’ll play really well.”

The Scorchers have Hilton Cartwright and Cameron Bancroft to call on while it seems likely that Jordan Silk will be called on for the men in magenta.
