New dates for India Test series confirmed

Cricket Australia have confirmed that the first Test between Australia and India will be played at the Adelaide Oval, starting on 9 December, while the original Brisbane fixture will become the second Test.

The first Test was postponed following the death of Australia batsman Phillip Hughes on 27 November, after he was struck on the neck by a bouncer and suffered a ruptured vertebral artery and did not recover from emergency surgery.

As such, the Test due to start on 4 December was always in doubt, with the Australia players in mourning and due to attend the funeral in Hughes' hometown of Macksville on Wednesday, the day before the match.

The India players opted to stay in Adelaide rather than fly to Brisbane, prompting speculation that the second Test would become the first, and CA later confirmed that. The 'Gabba match will now be played on 17 December.

The third Test in Melbourne, the Boxing Day fixture, has remained the same, while the fourth and final Test in Sydney, at the ground where the incident occurred, will start on 6 January.
