Paceman Shahadat turns himself in to police

Bangladesh fast bowler Shahadat Hossain has turned himself in after nearly a month in hiding, and has been jailed on charges of child endangerment as he's accused of torturing an 11-year-old girl.

The child was found on the streets of Dhaka in early September, and said she had been working as a house maid to Hossain and his wife, and alleged that they mistreated her. She was taken to hospital due to her injuries.

Shahadat and his wife went on the run for nearly a month, but on Sunday police raided the cricketer's in-laws' house and arrested his wife. He was not there, but surrendered to the courts on Monday.

The player had been suspended for all cricket, training included, during the investigation, and while the BCB said they didn't make any judgements, they were displeased with the 'embarrassment' the situation brought upon the board.

Shahadat had appeared in court to apply for bail on Monday, but this was denied. He is expected to appeal that decision.
