Parthiv to retain the gloves
India wicketkeeper batsman Parthiv Patel will earn at least one more Test behind the stumps after it was revealed that Wriddhiman Saha hasn’t recovered from his strain on his left thigh.
Paceman Ishant Sharma has been released from the squad in order to conduct his wedding leaving India with 14 men to choose their XI from.
Chairman of Selectors MSK Prasad insists that Saha remains the first choice keeper in Tests despite Parthiv’s impressive return to the game’s longest format.
Parthiv opened the batting for India in the third Test but is expected to drop down the order with Lokesh Rahul fit again and set to resume his partnership with Murali Vijay at the top of the order.
Sportskeeda reports that a BCCI official has said: “With the Ranji Trophy going on, it was felt that the squad should not be packed with too many players.”
India feel it is not necessary to call up more players who ultimately will not feature in their Test plans when those men could be playing first class cricket.
India squad for Fourth Test: Virat Kohli (C), Parthiv Patel (WK), Ajinkya Rahane, Lokesh Rahul, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Karun Nair, Ravi Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Jayant Yadav, Amit Mishra, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
