The Pakistan Cricket Board is in talks with its South African counterpart over a short return series immediately after the teams' current contest in the United Arab Emirates.

PCB spokesman Nadeem Sarwar told The Associated Press that talks were at a "very initial stage" over Pakistan touring South Africa for not more than two weeks around late November and early December.

The hastily-arranged tour would help fill the gaps left in South Africa's home calendar after India demanded its end-of-year trip was shortened. The Indians will only play two tests and three one-dayers in South Africa after rejecting a planned longer series.

Cricket South Africa confirmed it is "exploring alternatives" to make up for the lost games against India.
