PCB rejects Azhar’s captaincy resignation

Azhar Ali will continue as the captain of the Pakistan ODI side after his offer to resign was rejected by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Shaharyar Khan.
The 30 year-old Azhar tendered his resignation after he refused to attend a national team training camp because of the presence of returning paceman Mohammad Amir.
Amir, who came back from a five-year ban for spot-fixing in September, was included in the national camp after he impressed the selectors in domestic cricket.
Azhar and another senior player, Mohammad Hafeez, initially did not respond to their call ups because they did not want to play with a 'someone who brought shame to their country'.
The pair however met with the PCB and agreed to join the conditioning camp, but it has now been confirmed that Azhar wanted quit the captaincy over the whole affair.
The PCB said in a statement: "Azhar Ali met the chairman PCB [Shaharyar Khan]. He tendered his resignation. The chairman didn't accept his resignation, Azhar agreed and he will continue as captain."
