PCB still hopefull of series against India

Pakistan Cricket board chief Shaharyar Khan has not given up hope of a bilateral series against India at the end of this year, despite the political situation between the countries making that unlikely.

The PCB and BCCI have a Memorandum of Understanding in place about a series in December, but the BCCI have since said it seems unlikely to be fulfilled, with their government blocking the series.

But Khan is of the opinion that sport and politics should be kept apart, and hopes the India side will uphold their side of the bargain. This despite India National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz saying a series was not on the cards.

Khan was quote in the Pakistan Tribune: "Yes that’s true. Things don't look too well. The situation is certainly bleak but I'm not entirely hopeless.

"There is a slim hope considering that BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur has told us that they will discuss the issue on the sidelines of the ICC meetings in Dubai.

"We have told them (India) that we need a definitive answer about the series. We would be meeting in Dubai next week and I can say that we should know once and for all whether the series is going ahead or not by the time the ICC meetings conclude in Dubai.

"We have signed a MoU for the series and it is the moral and legal obligation of both parties to fulfill the commitment. We are ready and hope that the Indians are willing too."

Khan also recently said that the PCB would not take part in BCCI-organised events if the MoU was not upheld, to which the BCCI said that the ICC would take action in that case.
