The Proteas Test squad were named Team of the Year at the South African Sports Awards on Sunday.

South Africa have won series against England, Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan since August 2012 – and earlier this month drew with the latter opposition, with vice-captain AB de Villiers accepting the accolade on the squad's behalf.

"This is a very well deserved honour which the Proteas can be proud of," said CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat.

"The fact that they clinched the world number one Test ranking by winning away Test series against England and Australia is some feat.

"They are now well placed at the top of the table and I am sure that all South Africans are looking forward to seeing them play at home this summer.

"We are extremely proud of our team who last lost a Test series in 2009 and have been unbeaten in away series since 2006. That takes some doing.

De Villiers is currently at the top of the International Cricket Council's player rankings for Test batsmen, while the talented Hashim Amla is in second position and captain Graeme Smith eighth.

Seamers Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander, meanwhile, are first and second respectively in the player rankings for Test bowlers.

"In addition, we have the number one and two ranked batsmen and bowlers on the ICC rankings. That is besides having great players like Jacques Kallis who is statistically the greatest all-rounder of all time."
