Pujara wants to improve as he approaches 50th Test

India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara just wants to improve as a cricketer as he looks forward to playing in his 50th Test match for his country.

The 29-year-old Pujara, who is now India’s regular number three in the longest format of the game, will bring up a half-century of games in whites for his country when the second Test against Sri Lanka gets underway on Thursday in Colombo.

The right-hander averages more than 50 with the bat after 49 Test and says it will be a proud moment when he takes the field at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground.

Pujara said: “Playing the 50th test match for the country, it will be a proud moment for me.

“When I started playing cricket, I thought that Test cricket is something I always wanted to play.

“And, when I have to represent India for the 50th test match it will be a proud moment. I want to keep performing and continue improving as a cricketer. I am confident that I can add few more shots in my batting.

India lead the three-match Test series after beating the hosts by 304 runs in Galle.
