Rabada: I didn’t dream of a start like this

After picking up six wickets on his ODI debut against Bangladesh, South Africa fast bowling sensation Kagiso Rabada said he never dreamt that he would start his international 50-over career in that fashion.

The 20 year-old Rabada claimed figures of six for 16, including a hattrick, as he became the bowler with the best figures on debut in ODI cricket.

The Proteas strolled to an easy eight wicket victory over the Tigers in Mirpur to go one-nil up in the three-match series, but all the talk after the match was about the boy from Johannesburg.

He was always destined to play international cricket after helping the South Africa under 19 side win the World Cup in 2014.

He is fast and also picked up a record number of wickets in domestic first-class cricket since making his debut last season.

Rabada said: "Everything has been coming my way but I have just kept it simple, made sure I am ready to play, make sure I live the life an athlete is supposed to live – to a certain extent. I didn't dream of a start like this.

"Every time you represent your country, you have the responsibility to make sure you fulfill your role. Every game, I am going to make sure I am ready and if I play, I am going to try to do well."

The next ODI is on Sunday at the same venue.
