Rahane rewarded with Grade A contract


Batsman Ajinkya Rahane has been rewarded for his consistent performances in the India side when the BCCI gave him a Grade A central contract.

The 27 year-old Rahane, who has played in 19 Tests, 63 ODIs and 13 T20Is, has become a permanent member in all three squads and is only one of four players on a Grade A contract, the others are Test captain Virat Kohli, ODI skipper MS Dhoni and spinner Ravi Ashwin.

Seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar and batsman Suresh Raina have been downsized to Grade B contracts with Test openers M Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan, batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara, Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu, and fast bowlers Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami retained.

Ravidra Jadeja, who got the man of the match award in the recent first Test against South Africa, has been given a Grade C contract along with Harbhajan Singh and S Aravind.
