Rashid thanks Warne for mindset advice

England leg-spinner Adil Rashid has thanked legend Shane Warne for the advice given ahead of the first ODI against Sri Lanka, saying the Aussie maestro helped prepare him mentally for the series.

Warne and Rashid had a chat at Trent Bridge before the game, and the leggie said that Warne gave valuable advice not so much about technique, but more about keeping it simple mentally.

Rashid, who went on to take two wickets in that tied game, said on the CA website: "Before the game at Notts, I just had a general chat with him about leg spin. He gives me his tips.

"He just turned up there and it was having a catch-up. It was good to see him and good for him to give me a few tips, which was helpful.

"It is about the basics and keeping it simple and bowling the same ball – ball after ball after ball – then the natural variation will take place with the hand or the pitch.

"So it is just about that mindset – the positive mindset. It was not really a technical thing, it was more about keeping it simple.

"I am getting better mentally, but you can always have a bad day, or a bad game, or series."

Warne has helped Rashid before, including in the UAE last year, and Rashid will hope the advice proves useful come the Test series against Pakistan next month. The first Test starts on 14 July at Lord's.
