Bangladesh selectors have taken a gamble on spinner Abdur Razzak, naming him in the Test squad to face New Zealand on 9 October, even though he hasn't played a Test in two years.
He hasn't been completely out of the action though, playing a role in the limited-overs sides. Also called up, in a number of changes from the side that played in Zimbabwe, were Anamul Haque, Naeem Islam, Marshall Ayub and Al-Amin Hossain.
Anamul was forced to miss the tour to Africa as he was writing school exams. Retained in the squad were Robiul Islam, despite injury, and Mahmudullah, despite his poor form in Zimbabwe, where he made only one fifty.
A number of names were dropped from the side, most notably Mohammad Ashraful and Shahriar Nafees, while Enamul Haque jnr, Jahurul Islam, Sajedul Islam, Shafiul Islam, Shahadat Hossain and Ziaur Rahman also found themselves surplus to requirements.
The first Test will be played in Chittagong, and the second in Dhaka, and then the sides will contest three ODIs and a T20.
Squad: Mushfiqur Rahim (capt), Mahmudullah, Anamul Haque, Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Abdur Razzak, Naeem Islam, Sohag Gazi, Rubel Hossain, Mominul Haque, Marshall Ayub, Robiul Islam, Al-Amin Hossain
