West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach has been sent home from India after his shoulder injury failed to heal sufficiently for him to be considered for the second Test in Mumbai.

Roach missed the first Test in Kolkata, which India won inside three days and by an innings and 51 runs, and Shannon Gabriel will join the squad for Sachin Tendulkar's much-anticipated 200th Test.

Windies coach Ottis Gibson said: "We're sad to announce that Kemar has to return home to the Caribbean and will not have an opportunity on this tour, where we felt he could have made a major difference."

CJ Clark, the West Indies physiotherapist, added: "Kemar has not made the expected recovery from the shoulder injury that kept him out of the first Test.

"He is returning to the Caribbean for ongoing management and subsequent physical rehabilitation."
