Surrey have belatedly signed South African all-rounder Robin Peterson ahead of the revamped T20 Blast competition, which will commence on Friday.

Peterson has been named in a 12-man squad for a key opening fixture against the Sussex Sharks.

The outfit will be captained by former Proteas captain Graeme Smith – and bolstered with the services of England seamer Jade Dernbach and Ireland all-rounder Kevin O'Brien.

Spinning all-rounder Peterson has taken 21 wickets and scored 120 runs in 20 T20Is – but did not play in the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh earlier this year.

The England and Wales Cricket Board's premier domestic Twenty20 tournament will feature a host of other international stars, too.

The Yorkshire Vikings have recruited Australian batsman Aaron Finch, the Essex Eagles have hired New Zealander Jesse Ryder and former Netherlands seamer Dirk Nannes will play for Somerset.
