Robson joins the 'Cook is fine' chorus

England opener Sam Robson has become the latest player to throw his support behind struggling captain Alastair Cook, saying his opening partner is surely a knock away from a big score.

Cook has not make a century in nearly 30 innings, over the course of a year, and has thus come under massive pressure on the captaincy front too, with many calling for him to resign the role and focus on his batting.

But Robson, who has personally been in good form, feels such drastic steps are premature, and has backed Cook to come good against India at Lord's, saying people tend to forget about Cook's experience and records.

Robson told Sky Sports News: "He's been really good, he's relaxed. As captain, he's been really good to the young guys and to myself coming into the side.

"Everyone's been really supportive of him. He's scored 25 or so Test hundreds and he's a world class player. He's one of England's best ever players there is no doubt about that.

"All the close followers of the game who know what they are talking about realise that as well.

"Runs are not very far away for him. It's a tough game, it's easy to get out and a few things haven't gone his way in the last couple of games from what I can see.

"He's a really level character and things aren't necessarily happening as he would have like at the moment but I'm sure runs are around the corner for him."

England have not won a Test in nine games in a row, and their last game was a draw in the first Test against India, though they did have a chance to win the game on the fifth day, before tail-end resistance from Stuart Binny thwarted them.

The former Australian added: "Whilst we haven't got a win under our belts everyone feels we are playing some pretty reasonable cricket.

"Spirit and team morale has been really good, it's a good environment and there is a really good feeling among the group in the short time that I have been involved.

"I think we all feel like we are on the right track and are not too far away from stringing some wins together.

"Hopefully if we can keep that up and string it altogether at the right time we can get a win under our belts and get stuck into this series."
