Senanayake in Sri Lankan prelim WC squad

2015 World Cup

Sri Lanka have announced their 30-man preliminary World Cup squad and the biggest talking point is the selection of off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake.

Senanayake was, in May this year, suspended from bowling by the ICC when his bowling action was deemed illegal by the umpires in an ODI series against England.

He has been working hard in the past few months, at the officially approved ICC testing centres, to remodel his action in time for the World Cup. The selectors clearly feel that to be the case and have included him, feeling that he as enough time to prove himself.

The squad will be lead by Angelo Matthews and also includes off-spinning all-rounder Ramith Rambukwella, which is somewhat of a surprise given that he has only previously played one T20 International.

The batting will be led by veteran pair Kumar Sangakarra and Mahela Jayawardene and Lasith Malinga is also included despite only just recovering from ankle surgery.

The final 15-man squad must be announced by January 15th 2015.
