Sethi quits PCB chairmanship
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi has resigned after being ousted and reinstated three times.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi has resigned after being ousted and reinstated three times.
A two-member bench of the supreme court's apex – justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and justice Mian Saqib Nisar – formally acknowledged Sethi's announcement.
"I will be on the board, but I will not contest in the elections for the position of chairman. In court, I said I have no long-term interest. I want to serve on the board and serve the PCB," said Sethi.
Sethi will not participate in the upcoming PCB elections – and will likely join the board of management committee at prime minister Nawaz Sharif's request.
The government had deposed Sethi as acting chairman last month, but the supreme court, which also suspended the enforcement of the new constitution and the dissolution of board's interim management committee, reversed the decision 24 hours later.
Former first-class cricketer Iqbal Umar is the leading candidate to succeed Sethi.
