Shehzad baffled by World T20 omission

Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad was not picked for the upcoming World Twenty20, and has expressed his surprise about the decision, despite his poor form in the format in recent series.

While Shehzad did well for the Quetta Gladiators in the recent Pakistan Super League, his efforts for Pakistan have been lean over the past six months. He felt that he had enough of a track record to be picked despite that though.

Shehzad, who could not pass 16 in three knocks against New Zealand in January, said on Pakistan TV station ARY: "I don't know or understand the reason behind dropping an established player after a bad performance in one or two series.

"If performance was the only criteria then I should have been selected. I've performed well in the last three and a half years."

He did go on to wish the team the best in the tournament in India though, and vowed to push his way back into the side in future.

He added: "Anyhow, my job as a player is to perform on the field and also to enjoy my cricket which is under my control.

"A player's form can fluctuate, but ability is something that always remains consistent. I am not disappointed; I am very much satisfied with my performances.

"The team has been picked according to their [management and captain] wish and good luck to them.

"I am still young and have hit 10 international centuries, which is a great achievement, and I will be back very, very soon."
