Simmons replaces injured Fletcher for WI

The West Indies have replaced injured batsman Andre Fletcher with Lendl Simmons for the reminder of the World Twenty20 in India, the WICB announced on Tuesday.

Fletcher, who scored a vital half century against Sri Lanka in the group stage of the tournament, picked up a hamstring injury in the defeat at the hands of Afghanistan on the weekend.

"Simmons will join the squad and Andre Fletcher has gone back home," a team spokesperson told PTI.

Simmons will be flown in for the semi-final against India on Thursday, potentially as cover, as Fletcher was originally added to the XI as a replacement for Jerome Taylor.

The hosts, meanwhile, have called Manish Pandey to the squad as cover for veteran all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who hurt his ankle while playing against Australia on the weekend.
