Soumya looking to take it ‘game by game’ in tri-series

Bangladesh batsman Soumya Sarkar wants to carry his recent good form into the upcoming T20 tri-series in Sri Lanka, but said he will be taking it game by game.

Sarkar struck a 32-ball 51 in the first T20, of a two-match series, against Sri Lanka at home recently but is conscious that he needs to start the tri-series, also involving India, well.

Soumya said: “Obviously, yes [would like to carry on form]. Since whenever I take the field obviously I try to do well and score runs.

“So, there is good and bad but there are four matches first up. So, for those four matches, I would like to go game by game.

“So, in the first match I will try to give my best, to prove myself from the beginning and to promote myself.”

Tigers captain, and star allrounder, Shakib Al Hasan is a doubt for the tournament with a finger injury even though he was named in the squad.

Soumya has urged his teammates to step up if the skipper is ruled out of any games.

The left-handed batsman said: “I do not know Shakib’s condition. It is up to the doctors but if he is there then there will be a support for the team and there will be a spirit within the team – because as a senior player we will get three sides from him.

“So, without thinking of that, if the rest of us can give our best then we can expect something good.”

The T20 tri-series starts with a game between hosts Sri Lanka and India at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday.
