Specsavers offer free glasses to Jack Leach as Ashes goodwill swells
The British optical retail chain Specsavers have moved to offer bespectacled England tailender Jack Leach ‘free glasses for life’ for the part he played in England’s sensational victory at Headingley.
Leach scored just one run in his 76-run tenth wicket partnership with Ben Stokes that saw England to victory in Leeds, but the solitary run was as vital as any as it tied the scores as the day came to a raucous crescendo in Leeds.
The number eleven stood firm in the 16 other deliveries he faced – surviving long enough for Ben Stokes to haul England over the winning line in brutish and spectacular fashion.
Leach wears spectacles while batting, and on a steamy Yorkshire afternoon, was regularly seen removing his glasses for a quick wipe and clean.
Capitalising on the groundswell of positivity English cricket have built up with their maiden World Cup success and an enthralling Ashes series thus far, Specsavers saw their chance to get in on the action following a friendly nudge from Stokes himself.
We can confirm we will offer Jack Leach free glasses for life https://t.co/7rfPBK77GS

Free glasses are great, but any spectacle wearer will tell you there’s much more to augmenting your vision than just plonking the pair on your head.
A hero emerged as Stuart Broad couldn’t bare to see his fellow bowler go without all the necessary accouterments needed for one who rocks the eyewear.
