Sri Lanka appoint Atapattu

Sri Lanka have appointed Marvin Atapattu as their full time head coach.

The former opening batsman took over from Paul Farbrace after the Englishman resigned in April.

Atapattu was filling in as an interim coach with his former team, but will now take on all the responsibilities as the full time coach after a successful spell in charge.

The 43-year-old’s first assignment as head coach will be a seven match ODI series against England in November and December in Sri Lanka.

Atapattu played a total of 90 tests and 268 ODI’s for Sri Lanka, combining for a total of over 14 000 runs in his career. He will become the first full time Sri Lankan to coach his county in 15 years.
